Midnight Mania! Makdessi: Biased Bisping ‘Sucks’ At Commentating

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every quarantined night!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Back on March 14th at UFC Rio Rancho — the final event prior to general shutdown — Francisco Trinaldo was awarded a fairly uneventful decision win over John Makdessi. It was not a great fight, as neither man was really able to implement their game plan or land a ton of strikes.

It happens.

Makdessi, who suffered an ACL and MCL injury in the fight, believes he did enough to earn from his back foot to earn the decision victory. He’s also a bit upset with commentator Michael Bisping, whom he believes holds a grudge against him over Makdessi’s involvement in the “Fear The Fighter” brand, which failed to pay many of its sponsored athletes several years ago.

“He’s one of the fighters that was accusing me of stealing money,” he told FanSided. “He was commentating. So once I got back home. I watched the fight, and I heard his commentary, talking about a lot of things that made no sense. I just find it very funny how a guy like that … he wasn’t the smartest fighter. He took a lot of damage, he took a lot of shots. And I’m very surprised by how he’s commentating. Especially when he was doing the commentary of my flight, you know, I found it funny how he said I was running away, but any intelligent person understands. When you look at my fight, you understand why I was moving a lot, because he was very aggressive. He was coming forward. So, as a counter fighter, I was just being the smartest fighter, I would move away from him to keep my distance, but also having an 80 percent torn ACL. So, all things considering, I find it very unfortunate that Michael Bisping of all people, was doing the commentary and by the way, when he was talking, you could tell he has a grudge against me.”

Makdessi maintained his innocence regarding Fear The Fighter, which saw him face a lawsuit back in 2015 from Gegard Mousasi.

“The fighters, they said I stole money from them, which obviously was false. I had nothing to do with the finances, I was just a name on the paper. Straight up, if he reads this interview. He has more money than me, guaranteed and I never took his f–king money. If anything, being a part of Fear the Fighter, having my name on as one of the owners, was one of my biggest learning mistakes because I trusted the people. I trust in others to run a business and I took that gamble. But, call me a stealer, call me a thief, he’s incompetent. He sucks, he’s not even good at commentary.”

Ultimately, it’s impossible for us to say whether or not Bisping really has beef with “The Bull,” and Bisping has yet to respond to these accusations. However, every single MMA media member did score the fight for Trinaldo, as did 96.8% the general public per MMADecisions.com.

Tyron Woodley apparently now has beef with all of New Zealand and City Kickboxing.

I have seen some strange workouts in the previous few weeks of quarantine, but this might be the most pointless.

Frankie Edgar’s home took some damage in a New Jersey windstorm.

Midnight Music: Here’s a great band/song/album that I can say with relative confidence few reading have experienced: Zimbabwe’s Wells Fargo! They were writing heavy, political rock music back in the ‘70s, and there’s definitely a bit of Hendrix in their sound.
