Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez in the works for May 13 UFC event

The UFC is finalizing a bout between Drew Dober and Alexander Hernandez.

The lightweight fight is expected to take place as part of the UFC event on Wednesday, May 13. The event is the second of three being held in eight days at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.

Wednesday, two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking. They asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Hernandez (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) said he hoped to fight Dober (21-9 MMA, 7-5 UFC) if his then-opponent Islam Makhachev couldn’t travel to the United States.

“I saw (Diego) Ferreira and (Drew) Dober were matched up in May,” Hernandez said. “I imagine both of those guys have been training and might be prepared to step up. I’m also thinking about them.”

Hernandez vs. Makhachev was supposed to take place April 18 at UFC 249. Makhachev was removed from the bout due to travel issues. Hernandez was then booked against Omar Morales, but the event was cancelled due to coronavirus.

As for Dober, he was booked against Diego Ferreira at UFC on ESPN+ 32 originally scheduled for Oklahoma City, Okla. However, the event was also canceled due to the pandemic.

The May 13 card is expected to air on ESPN and stream on ESPN+.

With the addition, the current UFC lineup for May 13 includes:

  • Anthony Smith vs. Glover Teixeira
  • Ben Rothwell vs. Ovince Saint Preux
  • Karl Roberson vs. Marvin Vettori
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Philipe Lins
  • Sijara Eubanks vs. Sarah Moras
  • Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez
