Bellator 224 “Budd vs. Rubin” took place July 12, 2019 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Featherweight champion “The Jewel” Julia Budd (12-2) defended her title against rising 145 lb. star “Big Bad” Olga Rubin (6-0) in the night’s main event.

The event was a showcase of depth of talented women in Bellator MMA as a whole. A televised Flyweight bout featured Juliana Velasquez vs. “Warhorse” Kristina Williams, a preliminary bout featured the Bellator debut of Leslie Smith against Sinead Kavanagh, and “Angerfist” Arlene Blencowe lived up to her name in a bout that only lasted 22 seconds.

Despite there being no shortage of hype leading up to the card, it’s likely that many people skipped this one with no Rory MacDonald or Benson Henderson fight to lure in a casual audience.
