Bellator 219: “Awad vs. Girtz” went down March 29, 2019 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California. Hard-hitting Lightweights squared off in the main event as Saad Awad (23-10) faced off with Brandon Girtz (15-8).

To the surprise of some, that fight went the distance and was incredibly close, with Girtz rocking Awad several times with powerful left hands, but Awad storming back in the latter half of the second and third rounds to potentially steal them back. When it was all said and done, Girtz narrowly edged out the win on the scorecards with two 29-28’s and one 30-27.

The card also featured the return of former Featherweight champion Daniel Straus in his first match since a horrific motorcycle accident, another former champion in Andrey Koreshkov facing late replacement Michael Jasper, and a Middleweight fight for “Stitch ‘Em Up” Joe Schilling.
