Ricky Simon does unthinkable, cuts magnificent mullet ahead of UFC on ESPN+ 29

Ricky Simon has done the unthinkable.

The UFC bantamweight cut his magnificent mullet ahead of his bout with Ray Borg at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN+ 29 event in Jacksonville, Fla. Simon (15-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is coming  off back-to-back losses to Uriah Faber and Rob Font. The 27-year-old believes the mullet will be back in full force once he re-enters the win column.

“After two straight losses it kind of just fell off,” Simon said during Monday’s virtual media day. “Maybe a good winning streak will start peaking, maybe the hair on the back of my head will start growing again, but needed a little bit of a change up, and that’s it.”

But with the glorious mullet gone it’s not all bad news. Simon added that, as a consequence, he’s no longer sleeping on the couch.

“I was just tired of sleeping on the couch,” Simon said. “My wife wouldn’t let me in the room with it. Cut it off, and I’m back in the bedroom.”

As far as the fighting goes, Simon is excited to break his two-fight skid and believes Borg is the perfect opponent to do that.

“I think this an exciting matchup,” Simon said. “I think there are similarities in our grappling style, but I think I have a pretty heavy advantage in the striking and my overall game. He’s a high-paced fighter, I’m definitely excited, and I feel like I like to be exciting, so I’m going to take advantage of this opportunity with all the eyes that are going to be on this event.”

Below is a tragic video of Simon’s new look. Rest in peace, mullet.
