How Long Will Smith Be Out After Brutal Loss At UFC Jax?

UFC Jacksonville injuries and medical suspensions for the athletes who competed at the “Teixeira vs Smith” event last night (Weds., May 13, 2020) from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., have been released by the The Florida State Boxing Commission via MMA Junkie.

Event headliner Glover Teixiera was tagged with a six-month sit following his near five-round war against Anthony Smith in the main event of the evening. As for Smith, he was suspended for the mandated 60 days, though he will likely be out a lot longer once tests results are in. That’s because “Lionheart” suffered a brutal loss against Teixeira, once which many felt should have been stopped by his corner.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Smith suffered a broken nose, a broken orbital and lost a couple of teeth during the 205-pound showdown against one of the hardest hitters in the game.

Glover Teixeira: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 45 days.

Anthony Smith: Suspended minimum 60 days; additional suspension to be determined pending test results.

Ovince Saint Preux: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 30 days.

Drew Dober: Suspended 30 days.

Alexander Hernandez: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 60 days.

Ricky Simon: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 30 days.

Ray Borg: Suspended 30 days.

Andrei Arlovski: Suspended 30 days.

Philipe Lins: Suspended 30 days.

Michael Johnson: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 30 days.

Sarah Moras: Suspended 30 days.

Omar Morales: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 45 days.

Gabriel Benitez: Suspended 180 days unless cleared by physician; minimum suspension 45 days.

Brian Kelleher: Suspended 30 days.

Hunter Azure: Suspended 60 days.

Ike Villanueva: Suspended 45 days.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
