Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently tied a ribbon around its UFC on ESPN 8: “Overeem vs. Harris” mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place last Sat. night (May 16, 2020) inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

And when people beat the shit out of each other, they tend to get hurt.

Florida State Boxing Commission today released its list of medical suspensions for those combatants competing in “The Sunshine State,” and while a couple of athletes are staring down the barrel of a six-month sit, heavyweight headliners Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris escaped with just a 45-day timeout.

Full list of the medical suspensions (courtesy MMA Fighting) below:

Alistair Overeem: 45 days
Walt Harris: 45 days

Claudia Gadelha: 30 days
Dan Ige: 30 days

Edson Barboza: 30 days
Song Yadong: 30 days

Marlon Vera: 30 days
Matt Brown: 60 days

Miguel Baeza: 180 days or medical clearance. 30 days mandatory.
Anthony Hernandez: 45 days

Giga Chikadze: 180 days or medical clearance. 30 days mandatory
Irwin Rivera: 180 days or medical clearance. 30 days mandatory

Darren Elkins: 45 days
Nate Landwehr: 30 days

Mara Romero Borella: 180 days or medical clearance. 30 days mandatory
Rodrigo Nascimento: Requires medical clearance, 30 days mandatory

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
