The impact that George Floyd’s death at the hands of police on May 25 has been felt all across the world, as several protests and rallies have popped up all over speaking out against racism and police brutality.

But what started as peaceful calls for reform, quickly erupted into all-out chaos, as several riots have resulted in multiple deaths, millions of dollars in property damage and countless clashes between citizens and law enforcement.

Several mixed martial arts (MMA) stars such as Israel Adesanya, Chuck Liddell, Jon Jones and Conor McGregor have done their part to speak on Floyd’s unfortunate and untimely death, all while lashing out against social injustice and racism.

Now, Floyd Mayweather is doing his part, as he has officially sent a check in the amount of $88,500 to cover the funeral costs for Floyd’s family (via TMZ Sports).

If you’re wondering why so much for a funeral, that’s because Floyd’s family will hold four separate services to honor him in his hometown of Houston, followed by one in Minnesota, Charlotte and another at a location which will be revealed at a later date. According to the report, the CEO of “The Money Team’s” music label grew up with Floyd, prompting Mayweather to reach deep into his pocket to help out.

After officer Derek Chauvin was fired and subsequently arrested for Floyd’s death days following the incident, the other three officers on scene were arrested earlier today (Wed. June 3, 2020) and charged with aiding and abetting murder.

Furthermore, Chauvin’s initial charge of third degree murder has been upgraded to second degree murder, which carries a punishment of up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
