Woodley Opens As Sizable Underdog To Covington

Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, insists the promotion has already offered him a mid-summer showdown opposite former interim 170-pound titleholder, Colby Covington, a bout “The Chosen One” claims to have accepted.

But did Woodley bite off more than he can chew?

Our fiscal friends over at BetOnline (www.BetOnline.ag) have Covington pegged as the -280 (4/15) favorite while Woodley clocks in as the +240 (12/5) underdog. Both fighters are coming off high-profile losses in their last appearances. Covington was stopped by Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 while Woodley was outclassed by Gilbert Burns at UFC on ESPN 9.

That said, if you compare what “Chaos” (15-2) did opposite Usman to what “The Chosen One” (19-5-1) was able to muster up against “The Nigerian Nightmare,” you’ll see two very different performances. Woodley, now 38, looked flat against both Usman and Burns, leading pundits to speculate that his best days may be well behind him.

Which would explain the opening line for his Covington grudge match.
