Nate Diaz is not a fan of the next UFC welterweight title fight.
Diaz took to Twitter on Tuesday to criticize the booking between champ Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns, which is slated to take place July 11 at UFC 251 on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.
The way Diaz sees it, Usman is fighting an opponent who accepted the least amount of money offered by the UFC, which therefore doesn’t make him the best next option for a title shot.
“This is what’s wrong with people, claiming they’re fighters settling for less cause they know they’re not worth sh*t,” Diaz wrote. “You should’ve fought the next guy in line, not the guy who would take less cause he’s told too (sic). That’s why no one will remember you guys. This isn’t a title fight.”
Diaz followed up by saying he’s better compensated than the champion and challenger and took a shot at the UFC’s official sponsor.
“I get paid more than both of you together + F*CK REEBOK,” he tweeted.
Usman was expected to take on Jorge Masvidal, who defeated Diaz in November for the “BMF” title. However, negotiations went sour, and Masvidal publicly has expressed his discontent for the offered purse against Usman. The American Top Team fighter said he was offered less for a title bout with Usman than what he was offered against Diaz at UFC 244.
Burns hasn’t been considered a title contender as long as Masvidal, but he did recently pick up a win over former champion Tyron Woodley, who was considered, at the time, the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s official rankings.
