UFC ‘Fight Island’ is … Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

The location for “Fight Island” finally has been revealed.

UFC president Dana White announced Tuesday that Yas Island, Abu Dhabi is the official location for “Fight Island.”

Four events are expected to take place in Yas Island. The first will be UFC 251 on July 11, followed by a Wednesday event July 15, then consecutive Saturdays on July 18 and 25.

UFC 251 will feature three championship bouts. UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will defend his title against the surging Gilbert Burns in the main event. In the co-main event, newly crowned UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will rematch former champ Max Holloway, and a new bantamweight champion will be crowned when former featherweight king Jose Aldo takes on Petr Yan.

The July 18 event will crown a new flyweight champion when Deiveson Figueiredo rematches Joseph Benavidez. Figueiredo knocked Benavidez out in their first outing in February, but was not crowned champion due to missing weight.

White first mentioned “Fight Island” in early April, when he said he was “securing a private island” where international fighters could compete despite U.S. travel restrictions during the global coronavirus pandemic. For weeks, speculation ran rampant as to where “Fight Island” and what exactly it would be.

Now everyone knows.
