It feels like a hundred years ago when Anthony Pettis was UFC lightweight champion and ever since “Showtime” coughed up his crown to Raphael dos Anjos back in early 2015, the 33 year-old striker has competed as low as featherweight and as high as welterweight.

Why stop there?

Pettis is now angling for a fight against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who like “Showtime” has not worn gold in several years. Ever the gamer, “The Spider” replied on Instagram and said, “let’s do it.”

It’s been a rough stretch for Pettis (23-10). Once considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, the Roufusport striker has not won back-to-back contests in nearly six years. Similarly, Silva (34-10, 1 NC) has just one victory dating back to 2012, a controversial decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 218.

I’m not sure how Pettis would compensate for the size disadvantage, but I also thought the same thing when he moved up to 170 pounds before planishing Stephen Thompson, so I suppose at this level anything is possible.

Pettis vs. Silva … all in favor?
