Combate Americas resumes operations in August after halt due to pandemic

Combate Americas has a date for its return.

The MMA promotion announced a trio of events Tuesday morning in return to action after ceasing operations in March due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Combate Americas will host events on Aug. 28, Sept. 11 and Sept. 25. All three events will go down on from a closed set in Miami. The events will air live on television in the U.S. in Spanish on Univision and TUDN USA, and in English on AXS TV.

According to the press release, Combate Americas hired a dedicated physician to administer COVID-19 testing of all athletes, officials and staff prior to the show and to supervise the health of all personnel on-site. Everyone involved in the event will undergo both COVID-19 and antibody testing. The event will be overseen by the Florida State Boxing Commission.

A title fight for the promotion’s inaugural flyweight belt will headline the first event on Aug. 28. Former Titan FC champion Juan Puerta (18-6 MMA) takes on David Duran (8-6 MMA) in a five-round contest.
