Now healthy, Felice Herrig looking to take Angela Hill approach by staying busy

Felice Herrig is not planning on wasting any time upon her return.

Herrig (14-8 MMA, 5-3 UFC), who’s been sidelined due to a torn ACL, hasn’t competed since October 2018. She tore her ACL in April 2019 and after a year of rehab is finally set for her return.

She faces Virna Jandiroba at UFC 252 on Aug. 15, the start of many fights she’s hoping to book moving forward.

Herrig wants to follow in fellow strawweight Angela Hill’s footsteps by consistently fighting as much as she can.

“In my mind, I’m taking a page out of Angela Hill’s book,” Herrig told MMA Junkie. “Because that girl, she’s constantly fighting, she’s constantly staying busy, and I guess I never realized that that was an option. But now I’m like, ‘Hell yeah – that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to fight anyone, anytime.’ Sign me up. One-day notice, two-day notice – I’m always just going to be ready to fight, and that’s where my mindset is right now.”

In 2017, Herrig competed three times, notching wins over Alexa Grasso, Justine Kish and Cortney Casey. But since then, she’s dropped two in a row, most recently to Michelle Waterson at UFC 229.

She was booked to fight Yan Xiaonan this past June at UFC 238, but she revealed her torn ACL with roughly five weeks to go until fight night. Since then, she’s been rehabbing her knee, spending time at the Performance Institute in Las Vegas and is finally scheduled to make her return in less than two months.
