UFC development deal fighter William Knight to face Cody Brundage on Dana White’s Contender Series

UFC development deal fighter William Knight is back on Dana White’s Contender Series.

On Sept. 1, the fifth episode of the season, Knight (7-1 MMA) will take on undefeated Michigan-based light heavyweight Cody Brundage at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas – pending bout finalization.

Two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed the targeted booking to MMA Junkie on Wednesday following an initial report from MMA Fighting. The people asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

A competitor on DWCS, Season 3, Knight became the lone fighter from the season to earn a UFC developmental deal. Now-UFC-featherweight Chase Hooper had earned the deal on Season 2, after now-UFC-middleweight Bevon Lewis was the first DWCS fighter to earn one on the inaugural season.

Since signing the development deal, Knight has alternated wins and losses. After defeating fellow DWCS alumnus Jamelle Jones at CES 59, Knight was defeated by Tafon Nchukwi – a controversial first-round stoppage in the eyes of some, including Knight.

In his most recent fight at CES 60 in January, Knight defeated Rocky Edwards by third-round TKO.

Brundage (5-0 MMA), the Lights Out Championship light heavyweight champion and Lights Out Championship middleweight champion, is undefeated with four finishes in five pro bouts.

Brundage is the husband of former UFC fighter Amanda Cooper.
