McGregor Just Realized It Wasn’t A ‘Cover Up’

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who spent the past few years feuding with reigning 155-pound kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov, today sent his condolences to team “Eagle” for the loss of Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Abdulmanap passed away this week at age 57 from complications of COVID-19.

“The loss of a father, a coach, and a dedicated supporter of the sport,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Condolences and rest in peace Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.”

It’s hard to know where the showmanship ends and the sincerity begins, as McGregor is the same fighter who claimed Abdulmanap was using coronavirus as a “cover up” to hide the fact that Khabib was too chicken to compete during quarantine.

Hopefully McGregor omitted that part from his subsequent prayers.

I guess at the time those barbs were not as serious as calling Khabib’s wife a “towel” and to be fair, I’m sure most combat sports fans have become desensitized to this never-ending rivalry after the bus-window incident roughly two years ago.

Khabib submitted McGregor in the UFC 229 main event back in late 2018.
