Report: Russian president Vladimir Putin calls Khabib Nurmagomedov to offer ‘deepest condolences’ for father’s death

Russian President Vladimir Putin has paid his respects to the Nurmagomedov family.

According to a report by RT Sport on Friday, the Russian president called UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to offer his “deepest condolences” after the death of Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Per the report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced Putin had reached out to Khabib in an effort to console him on the death of his father.

Abdulmanap was 57 years old.

Putin has been fond of the UFC lightweight champion and his family. The Russian president met with Khabib and Abdulmanap after Khabib’s successful title defense against Conor McGregor in October 2018. Putin also stayed in contact with Khabib during his father’s illness.

Abdulmanap had been battling with COVID-19 since April and his condition had been deteriorating since. After a period of time in serious but stable condition, reports from Russia stated Friday that Abdulmanap had died.

Abdulmanap presided over the emergence of Dagestani fighters on the world stage with Khabib leading the way.
