Mummified Masvidal ‘Hurting’ After 20-Pound Weight Cut

Two people missed weight at the UFC 251 weigh ins on Friday, but fortunately for fight fans, Jorge Masvidal wasn’t one of them. A towel-clad “Gamebred” hit the championship mark for his 170-pound title fight against Kamaru Usman this Sat. night (July 11) on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

But it was “rough” road to the pay-per-view (PPV) headliner.

“Twenty pounds in six days,” Masvidal told MMA Fighting. “That’s all I’m gonna say. It was rough. But I did it. I get shit done. I’m hurting though, initially during the weight cut, but now it’s all behind me. I made the weight, I’ve already got liquids in me, food in me, so pretty soon it’ll be just party time.”

Usman also came in at the championship weigh of 170 pounds.

Masvidal, 35, took the UFC 251 headliner on less than a week’s notice after “The Nigerian Nightmare” lost his original opponent, top 170-pound contender Gilbert Burns, to the coronavirus pandemic that has crippled the state of Florida.

Hopefully “Durinho” can get the winner of Usman-Masvidal later this year.
