Top welterweight contender Colby Covington was not a fan of the UFC 251 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which took place last Sat. night (July 11, 2020) on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi. He is, however, a fan of all those high school villains played by William Zabka back in the eighties.

I’m not sure how else to explain his latest shtick.

Anyway, Covington knows a thing or two about UFC 251 headliners Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman. “Chaos” trained with the former at American Top Team (ATT) for several years and lost to the latter in the UFC 245 main event last December.

“It was a pathetic performance,” Covington told Submission Radio about Usman vs. Masvidal. “It put me to sleep and it put all my friends to sleep as well. So, Marty Fakenewsman, just like I said, he’s boring as fuck and he had a shitty fighter in Street Judas to make it even more less entertaining. He’s playing footsies out there, it’s the Ultimate Footsies Championship. I mean, who wants to see that shit? I feel bad for all the people that purchased their pay-per-view.”

Usman was nicknamed “Marty Fakenewsman” for all the fake news put out by “The Nigerian Nightmare” and his manager Ali Abdelaziz, while Masvidal is referred to as “Street Judas” for choosing a successful combat sports career over a friendship with Covington.

“I’m a little upset I didn’t wrestle (Usman) the first time, cause I know he’s not on my level wrestling,” Covington continued. “But I wanted to prove a point [at UFC 245], I wanted to knock him out unconscious. But seeing that fight and how much he struggled to take down the Street Judas, I mean, that’s pathetic. Street Judas was taken down by lightweights, by featherweights, by bantamweights in Assuncao. You can blow wind at him and he’ll fall over and be taken down. So, to see Marty struggle so much, showed me how bad Marty is at wrestling. There’s a reason he was D-2 and I was D-1, and when I fight him in the next fight, he’s gonna be exposed and I’ll expose his wrestling.”

Usman topped Masvidal by way of five-round unanimous decision (video) and will likely move on to face welterweight contender Gilbert Burns later this year. “Durinho” was originally booked to fight for the 170-pound title but got bounced from UFC 251 after testing positive for coronavirus.
