Holloway: UFC 251 Media Threats ‘Not Okay’

Fans of Max Holloway, or perhaps bettors who came up empty in the UFC 251 co-main event, have no tolerance for the combat sports media, particularly those siding with Alexander Volkanovski after “The Great” retained his featherweight title last weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Was the judges’ decision a blatant robbery? That depends on who you ask, though it should be noted that UFC President Dana White was openly critical of the five-round split decision, as was top featherweight contender Chan Sung Jung.

“Just landed in Vegas for another quarantine and was told some guys in the media are receiving threats for saying my fight was not a robbery,” Holloway wrote on Twitter. “This is not okay. I appreciate everyone who wants to ride for me but that ain’t it.”

The UFC 251 co-main event served as an immediate rematch for Holloway and Volkanovski. “Blessed” coughed up his crown to “The Great” at UFC 245 last December in a clearcut decision loss, which also came after 25 minutes of action.

“Life isn’t fair. It’s even more unfair for many many other people in the world than it will ever be for me,” Holloway continued. “People are unemployed right now with no end in sight and it’s not their fault. It is what it was. Nothing changed for me as a fighter. We proved our point. I still have my five belts at home. I’m 28 and healthy. Blessed era continues. Bless yourself.”
