Masvidal Doesn’t Have Interest In Fighting ‘Fragile Punks’ Like Colby

It seemed that the fight to make following Jorge Masvidal’s loss to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, at UFC 251 last Sat. night (July 11, 2020) was a showdown between “Gamebred” and Colby Covington.

But it seems Masvidal doesn’t have any time to spend on “fragile punks.” That’s because Jorge doesn’t see the point of fighting someone who was just recently finished by “The Nigerian Nightmare,” while he went the distance with the champ on short notice.

“The fragile guy with the MAGA hat, definitely not him,” Masvidal at the UFC 251 post fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “Cause he got finished by this guy with a full training camp. He had like 12 weeks and he got finished by that guy. That guy’s below me and this dude by a lot.

“Six days’ notice and I was nowhere near getting hurt or getting put out. The gas tank wasn’t the best but I wasn’t going nowhere as far as damage goes. Everybody could see that. So definitely not that punk.”

Indeed, Covington was stopped by Usman during their title fight at UFC 245 in the fifth and final round after four competitive rounds between the two. Once the dust cleared, “Chaos” has suffered a broken jaw, though he was quick to slam referee Marc Goddard for putting an end to the fight in what he felt was an premature stoppage.

Covington hasn’t competed since then, though he did have to find a new place to train after parting ways with longtime camp, American Top Team (ATT), which is also home to Masvidal. And while a matchup between Jorge and Covington would be nuts give the bitter feud between them, it seems Jorge isn’t interested for the time being.

That leaves it wide open for this rematch to go down.
