Could 54-year-old Mike Tyson kick Conor McGregor’s ass in a boxing match?

Dare I even ask this question: Could you imagine Mike Tyson and Conor McGregor stepping into the ring?

It came up Monday night while the boxing legend appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon. During the interview, Fallon did a bit asking Tyson how he’d fare against fictional boxers Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago.

They were having a good time.

But then, you see, Fallon ventured into something that could actually happen and asked “Iron Mike” how a fight with McGregor would go.

“Wow, look at that,” Tyson said as an image of the former UFC two-division champion fighting his younger self flashed on screen.

“Yeah, that dude’s nuts,” Fallon said of McGregor.

Tyson, 54, was quick to respond: “Yeah, but I’m gonna kick his ass anyway!”

It got a big laugh out of Fallon, who then mentioned that McGregor, 32, “doesn’t play by the rules” because he’s an MMA fighter. Tyson made one thing clear.

“We’re gonna play with boxing rules,” he said.

Tyson is making a return to the ring in September for an exhibition boxing match against Roy Jones Jr. McGregor, meanwhile, is apparently retired from MMA. A fight between them is obviously highly unlikely, although we know money talks. So here’s a question: Do you think a 54-year-old Tyson could beat McGregor in a boxing match?

I’m gonna go with yes (I think).

The Blue Corner is MMA Junkie’s blog space. We don’t take it overly serious, and neither should you. If you come complaining to us that something you read here is not hard-hitting news, expect to have the previous sentence repeated in ALL CAPS.
