“Platinum” Mike Perry managed to avoid hitting a three fight losing skid back in June by defeating Mickey Gall at UFC on ESPN 12, but in the months following it looked like he was going to let his personal demons KO his career.

A violent altercation at a restaurant that left an old man in the hospital and what looks like an incoming tell-all from his ex-wife Danielle Nickerson have taken what was once a fun story about a quirky meathead and propelled it into potential Koppenhaver territory.

After somehow emerging unscathed from several incidents where he dropped the N-word, there’s a very real chance Perry sits on the verge of being ‘cancelled’ … or at least released from the UFC. Perhaps sensing this, Perry is vowing to change his ways.

“I want to be a better role model for my family,” he wrote on Twitter. “For my unborn son. My Queen @latory_g and for myself so I can earn the respect I deserve. To my sponsors and my bosses at @ufc I want to apologize for how my actions have impacted our relationships. I will be better all around.”

Perry’s girlfriend and recent corner Latory Gonzalez recently announced she was pregnant with their first child. On the same day, Nickerson declared “I’m done being silent. What happened is not ok. It’s never acceptable. It’s still happening everyday to others.”

For its part, the UFC says Perry won’t be offered another fight until he completes a treatment program for alcohol abuse.
