Former UFC flyweight title challenger Ray Borg has been released from the promotion following his most recent fight withdrawal, per a report by MMA Fighting.

UFC officials revealed the news Friday, confirming that “Tazmexican Devil” was released from his current contract.

This news comes just one week after Borg was forced to withdraw from his bout with Nathan Maness at UFC Vegas 5 last weekend. The entire card was a walking disaster, but Borg was one of the fighters who stood out the most considering his track record for failed weight cuts and missed walks to the Octagon. Remember, Borg was also forced out of his fight with Merab Dvalishvili at UFC on ESPN 10 back in June following another health scare involving his son.

Borg, 27, hasn’t had the best tenure under the UFC banner since his debut in 2014. While the talented Arizona native won five out his first seven Octagon appearances to earn a title shot against UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson back in 2017, the rest of Borg’s career was plagued with injuries, failed weight cuts, and late-notice withdrawals. In total, Borg missed weight four times as a member of the UFC roster, forcing the promotion to permanently move him up to bantamweight earlier this year. Prior to that move by UFC, Borg stated that he’d retire from MMA if he missed weight again, but that obviously never happened.

While Borg has only managed to produce a 7-5 record inside of the Octagon he should have no problem finding a new landing spot in MMA free agency. That said, the next promotion that signs “Tazmexican Devil” must be willing to deal with his occasional blunder.

What say you, Maniacs? Did Borg deserve to get his UFC walking papers? Where should he go next?

Let’s hear it!
