Matt Frevola vs. Roosevelt Roberts in the works for Sept. 12 UFC event

Matt Frevola and Roosevelt Roberts are being paired up again.

Frevola (8-1-1 MMA, 2-1-1 UFC) and Roberts (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) were supposed to fight April 25 prior to a COVID-19-induced event cancellation. However, the two fighters have been paired up again, this time for the UFC’s Sept. 12 event.

The event is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, though no official announcement has been made.

Multiple people with knowledge of the booking informed MMA Junkie of the targeted bout, but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Frevola has won back-to-back fights. After kicking off his UFC career going 0-1-1, Frevola rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Jalin Turner at UFC 236 in April 2019. In October 2019, Frevola earned a split decision nod over Luis Pena.

Frevola was supposed to compete against Frank Camacho on June 20, however, the fight was scrapped when his cornerman and fellow UFC fighter Billy Quarantillo tested positive for COVID-19.

Roberts will look to bounce back from a June 20 loss to Jim Miller. Prior to that defeat, a first-round submission, Roberts finished Brok Weaver by second-round rear-naked choke on May 30. Roberts has won two of his most recent three fights.

With the addition, the Sept. 12 lineup includes:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira
  • Andrea Lee vs. Roxanne Modafferi
  • Tyson Nam vs. Matt Schnell
  • Bruno Silva vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
  • Frank Camacho vs. Brok Weaver
  • Kyle Nelson vs. Billy Quarantillo
  • Bryan Barberena vs. Anthony Ivy
