Add Dana White to list of people who think Jon Jones should run things back with Dominick Reyes.
In February, UFC light heavyweight champion Jones edged out Reyes to retain his title in a back-and-forth battle that many scored in favor of Reyes.
Since then, Reyes has been chomping at the bit to get another crack at Jones, but Jones currently is in a dispute with the UFC over contract negotiations.
Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) is widely considered as one of the greatest fighters of all time. He has wanted to try his hand at a move up to heavyweight to take on devastating knockout artist Francis Ngannou.
But Jones ended up in a rift with the UFC over his reported contract demands for a potential superfight with Ngannou. Jones expressed his discontent with his overall career earnings and said he’s willing to hold out until he gets paid his worth.
In a recent interview with “The Schmo,” White sounded hopeful the light heavyweight champion will eventually return to action.
With heavyweight still an option for him, the UFC president says there are plenty of opponents for him to face, but if he stays at 205 pounds, White says the rematch with Reyes (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) is what will be next for him.
“It depends on what he does,” White said. “Does he move up to heavyweight? If he stays at light heavyweight, he’s got to fight Reyes again. You have to see the Reyes fight again. And if he moves up to heavyweight, there’s a lot of interesting (matchups). He could fight (Daniel) Cormier, he could fight Stipe (Miocic) depending on who wins on Saturday (at UFC 252). He could fight Francis Ngannou. There are a lot of fun fights for him at heavyweight.”
