White: Silva Will Retire Following ‘Prime Time’ Fight

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Anderson Silva will trade leather with hot-and-cold striking sensation Uriah Hall at the promotion’s upcoming “Fight Night” event on Oct. 31, though a city and venue have yet to be determined.

While the 45 year-old Silva is well past his expiration date, his Halloween headliner will mark the final time “The Spider” steps foot inside the Octagon. That’s according to UFC President Dana White, who confirmed the Brazilian’s retirement on Tuesday night.

“Yes, it will be his last fight,” White said.

Silva (34-10, 1 NC) has just one victory since late 2012, a controversial decision nod over Derek Brunson at UFC 208. As for Hall (15-9), he recently captured back-to-back fights for the first time since late 2015.

“Our mistakes make us evolve, and thanks to them, I am who I am today, my stumbles have strengthened me and everything I’ve seen and lived to this day is being incredibly profitable,” Silva wrote on Instagram. “Life is like this, and I hope I never stop evolving, enjoy all the moments that life gives you and make this whole growth into the future!”

Silva (34-10, 1 NC) is likely to join the UFC Hall of Fame in the very near future.
