Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who spent the second half of his combat sports career at featherweight, will try to wrap things up with a third (and final) title run in the 135-pound weight class.

He certainly got off to a good start, thanks a hard-fought decision win over veteran bruiser Pedro Munhoz in the UFC on ESPN 15 main event earlier this month in Las Vegas. But with a bantamweight title shot still out of reach, it might be time to revisit some of those fan-friendly legacy fights.

“Another guy that’s also a little older and a legend himself is Dominick Cruz,” Edgar told Bruce Buffer on Buffer’s It’s Time podcast. “A lot of people are still talking about that, so I’m definitely interested. The title is obviously my main goal, where my sight’s on, but it doesn’t have to be right away. I’m willing to fight some of those legacy fights as well.”

At 38, Edgar (24-8-1) still has a couple of years on the 34 year-old Cruz (22-3), though you could argue “The Dominator” is like 80 in MMA years, thanks to a history of devastating injuries and surgically-repaired body parts that stole a hefty chunk of his fighting prime.

Cruz, currently ranked No. 11 at 135 pounds, returned to competition after a four-year absence and was put down by the since-retired Henry Cejudo at UFC 249. Edgar, meanwhile, debuted at No. 5 with his recent performance against “The Young Punisher.”
