Summer Tapasa, viral Best Buy employee who stopped alleged thief, lands UFC security job

Summer Tapasa’s viral moment has led her to a new career.

The former Best Buy employee went viral in December 2019 after security cameras showed her taking down an alleged thief from walking out of the store without paying for a product at a Best Buy in Waimulu, Hawaii. Tapasa was fired from her job, allegedly as a result of the incident.

In January, not long after the video went public, UFC president Dana White brought Tapasa to Las Vegas as a VIP guest for the UFC 246 pay-per-view headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone. The experience came with more than just a flight and ticket to the fights, but also a job offer from White.

“I brought her out to Vegas and I offered her a job here,” White said on a video posted this week on Twitter. “She went back to Hawaii, she weighed all her options, and well, she decided to come work for the UFC. She’s now a UFC employee. So all you people thinking about (expletive) around the UFC, you will get your ass whooped by Summer.”

In the video, Tapasa said she has been working for the UFC in a security capacity for a little more than a week.
