Overeem: It Would Be An Honor To Welcome Jones To Heavyweight

Despite Dana White shutting him down a couple of times already, Jon Jones is still doing his best to land a title fight against current Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic for his debut in the division. Francis Ngannou has already punched his ticket for a rematch against the champ, but “Bones” has been consistent with his campaign efforts on social media.

But there are several other high-profile match ups who would be intriguing for Jones, including one against former Strikeforce and DREAM Heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem. For “The Reem,” he would be honored to welcome the former UFC Light Heavyweight champ to the division.

“Yes I would do it,” said Overeem when asked during a recent media day scrum if he’s accept a fight against Jones “I think it would be a great fight. I would feel honored.”

The two men have trained together in the past at Jackson Wink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but since Overeem no longer calls the famed camp home, he has no qualms in trying to break “Bones.” Plus, passing up the chance to be the first man to hand Jones his first true defeat is not something many would do.

For now, Jones is hitting the weights (and carbs) in order to pack on the pounds while “The Reem” is making his final preparations to face Augusto Sakai in the main event of UFC on ESPN 9, which is locked and loaded for this Saturday night (Sept. 5, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
