Woodley Will Risk Foul To Score Covington Nut Punch

Let’s hope for Covington’s sake their referee is not Marc Goddard.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is planning to do what many mixed martial arts (MMA) fans (and fellow fighters) have been wanting to do for quite some time.

Sure, that might score a two-point deduction for “The Chosen One,” risky business in a five-round fight, but it sounds like the rewards far outweigh the risks and let’s face it, if anyone has been asking for it, it’s Covington.

“I will let my hands go. You guys and you fans telling me ‘let your hands go, let your hands go,’ I need to let them go. You have that, you have my word I will let these hands go,” Woodley said on Instagram Live (transcribed by Cole Shelton). “I’ll let them go upside his head, body. I might even punch in the sack for the warning, bap. I will take the warning or even the point deduction, I feel good guys.”

I guess it beats a “lifetime ban” from MMA.

Woodley (19-5-1), who turned 38 back in April, dropped his strap to Kamaru Usman in the UFC 235 co-main event back in early 2019, then turned in a similarly uninspired performance against Gilbert Burns at UFC on ESPN 9 roughly one year later.

Covington (15-2), meanwhile, will make his first appearance since getting stopped by Usman at UFC 245 last December. Prior to that loss, “Chaos” racked up seven straight wins over some of the biggest names in the division, including two former champions.
