How UFC contract winner Drako Rodriguez went off instinct to secure first career triangle choke

LAS VEGAS – It was a quick night at the office for Drako Rodriguez, who used his slick submission skills to earn a UFC contract.

Rodriguez (7-1) put Mana Martinez to sleep in the first round Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series 32 in a bout where he looked to be in a compromised position before flipping the script on Martinez (6-2) and securing the triangle choke.

Speaking to reporters, including MMA Junkie, backstage after his contract-winning performance, Rodriguez broke down his submission win, and explained that he wants to make improvements before competing again. He also explained what it meant to receive high praise from former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

Check out Rodriguez’s reaction following his victory at the UFC Apex via the video above.
