Patchy Mix offers no excuses after first career loss to Juan Archuleta: ‘I’m down, but I’m not out’

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Patchy Mix vows to grow after suffering his first career loss at Bellator 246.

Mix (13-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) fell short in his pursuit to capture the vacant bantamweight title at Mohegan Sun Arena as he dropped a unanimous decision to Juan Archuleta in the main event.

After a strong start, Mix started to fade a little and Archuleta used his experience to take over in the later rounds. It was a solid performance by Mix, who imposed his will with early takedowns, but Archuleta was able to weather the storm and control the remainder of the fight.

Despite the hard-fought loss, the 27-year-old prospect has no excuses.

“Just a few adjustments,” Mix told reporters, including MMA Junkie, in the post-fight press conference. “Just feel like I tried to go for the finish in the first and second, I used a lot of energy, and I was rebuilding in the third. He came strong in the third, the fourth and the fifth, just like I knew he would. He’s got good cardio, a good team – no excuses on my end. I was the best Patchy Mix tonight, I came with a great camp – even the extension because we were supposed to fight July 24, I had extra time. No excuses, he was just better than me tonight.”

The loss to Archuleta marked the first defeat of his career, but rather than dwell on a missed opportunity, Mix said he will bounce back from it and come back better than ever.

“I don’t define myself just on this one fight or any of my last 13 or even the 24-fight win streak. I take each one at a time so I’m just trying to grow and get better each time,” he said. “I’m down right now, but I’m not out. It was a hard-fought fight. It’s not like he just walked out there and walked through me. I feel like some minor adjustments, maybe another takedown in there, that fight could go either way so I don’t hang my head. I’m gonna learn from this one as well.”
