Midnight Mania! UFC Sends McGregor Bout Agreement For Poirier Rematch

Day-by-day, we seem to be inching closer to an official Conor McGregor bout announcement.
The pattern is somewhat well-established at this point. McGregor retires and says wild stuff from the sidelines to keep himself in the headlines (like THIS!), inserting himself into any number of potential match ups. Eventually, one option grows more likely than the rest as behind-the-scenes negotiations continue.
Enter Dustin Poirier.
“The Diamond” is a former interim Lightweight champion and former victim of McGregor’s Featherweight rise. The current top contender has been chasing a rematch for ages now, and perhaps he’s finally close to achieving that goal. The two have publicly discussed and agreed to a “Charity MMA fight” … whatever the means.
UFC is unlikely to be schemed out of a profit, however, and today, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed on Twitter that UFC has sent McGregor a bout agreement for the fight. “Per sources, UFC did formally offer Conor McGregor a fight against Dustin Poirier this week, as Dana White told Barstool Sports today. Sent a bout agreement on Tuesday, I’m told. DOES NOT MEAN THE FIGHT IS DONE. Not even close. But a contract was offered for the bout.”
As mentioned in the Tweet, this is far from official confirmation. There are still many other options for McGregor, ranging from Manny Pacquiao to Tony Ferguson. For now, however, we have to assume McGregor vs. Poirier 2 is the most likely match up.
