Who should Israel Adesanya fight next?

Israel Adesanya’s next opponent is clear-cut, but with an asterisk. If Jared Cannonier beats Robert Whittaker, there’s no one who should be inserted ahead of Cannonier for a title shot. Everyone knows it. Champions seldom name drop their next challenger on the mic following a title defense, but Adesanya did just that at UFC 253. UFC president Dana White says he doesn’t “like to make the next matchups the night of the fight.” Guess what? White did just that, expressing interest in Adesanya vs. Cannonier. Former champ Whittaker presents a big “if,” no doubt – but Cannonier could definitively punch his ticket Oct. 24 at UFC 254.

Was the Iaquita fight the last time we will ever see a good Donald Cerrone performance?

Have we seen the last of ‘good’ Donald Cerrone fights?

Everyone’s definition of “good” is different. If “good” means making a statement in the title picture, then yes, we’ve seen the last of it. However, if “good” means putting on fun, exciting bouts against solid opponents, then I think Donald Cerrone has a few more rodeos left. His recent fight against Niko Price, in my estimation, was quite good. Sure, it started off rough – but Cerrone rallied. The two battled. When the dust settled, the bout was a draw. Price is no bum, and Cerrone hung in there. That’s why I was a bit surprised White decided to mention retirement when he did at the post-fight presser. At a minimum, the UFC should let Cerrone have one more fight. Hopefully if they do, it’s a good one.

Pac-Mac: Yay or yuck?

Yes, I know. I should throw up in my mouth over this one. I really should. But I recognize I’d be a hypocrite. The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter if Conor McGregor isn’t fighting in the UFC. It doesn’t matter that this makes no sense. It doesn’t matter that the McGregor-to-boxing sideshow already happened. It doesn’t even matter that McGregor will likely lose to Manny Pacquiao. All that matters is I know, at the end of the day, I’ll still watch. I can’t in good conscience allow myself to talk down upon a spectacle that I will clear my calendar to watch. For that, I will keep my lunch down.
