Ferguson Eyes Diaz At Welterweight

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson turns 37 in just a few months and it sounds like he’s getting tired of cutting weight, which may come as a surprise considering “El Cucuy” recently dieted down to 155 pounds twice within three weeks.

Nevertheless, Ferguson (25-4) is itching to get back to competition at some point later this year and doesn’t have the patience to wait for UFC to sift through the lightweight rubble, which is why the mayor of “Snap City” is taking matters into his own hands.

“I like to fight, if I don’t, I gotta bump up to 170,” Ferguson told ESPN. “I hear Nick Diaz is looking for competition. I’m a 170-pounder … UFC told me, ‘well you’re kinda small’ well I have a big frame. All I was eating is like once a day because I was barely making ends meet. I got the frame for like a 205 pounder.”

Diaz, who turned 37 back in August, is looking to make his return to welterweight at some point early next year. The uncrowned king of Stockton has not competed since his “No Contest” against Anderson Silva way back in early 2015.

The last time Ferguson stepped into the Octagon as a welterweight was for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale in June 2011. “El Cucuy” tipped the scale at 169 pounds and summary destroyed fellow reality show finalist Ramsey Nijem the following night.
