Carlos Felipe vs. Justin Tafa joins UFC’s Jan. 16 lineup

A heavyweight matchup is the latest addition to the UFC’s Jan. 16 event.

Carlos Felipe (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will face Justin Tafa (4-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). No location or name designation has been announced for the event.

MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with a person close to the situation following an initial report from Combate. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

After suffering his first pro loss to Serghei Spivac in his promotional debut in July, Brazil’s Felipe rebounded with a unanimous decision over Yorgan De Castro two weeks ago at UFC on ESPN 16.

With all four of his pro wins coming via finish, Tafa is also coming off a rebound win, scoring a first-round knockout of Juan Adams at UFC 247 in February. Prior to that, he was stopped by De Castro last October at UFC 243.

With the addition, the Jan. 16 lineup now includes:

  • Brian Kelleher vs. Ricky Simon
  • Carlos Felipe vs. Justin Tafa
