Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President, Dana White, recently stated that the promotion was willing to offer Conor McGregor his desired rematch against Dustin Poirier on January 23, 2021 after the two Lightweight’s agreed to the fight earlier this year.

The only problem is that McGregor was hoping to mount his much-anticipated return in 2020. Nevertheless, “Notorious” eventually got around to hopping on his social media account to respond to the “take it or leave it” ultimatum set forth by White.

“I accept, Jan 23rd is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style,” wrote McGregor on Twitter. “Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny.”

If the fight eventually does come to pass on that proposed date, it will be a year since McGregor last competed. “Notorious” knocked out Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on Jan. 18, 2020, his first fight after a 15-month layoff (see it again here).

McGregor already has a win over Poirier, knocking him out in the very first round at UFC 178 back in 2014. The two were trying to lock down a charity fight between them in an attempt to stick it to UFC as a result of their respective differences with the promotion. That prompted White and Co. to offer them the rematch inside the Octagon.

As far as locking down AT&T Stadium, that isn’t necessarily out of the realm of possibility since the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) recently began accepting licensure requests for combat sports, meaning that Dana White and Co. can submit an application to stage an event in early 2021.

The promotion has been wanting to stage an event in the house that Jerry built for some time now but could never lock anything down.

The only downside is that the commission will only allow a stadium or arena to be filled at 50-percent capacity. That being said, given the size of the state-of-art stadium, the event can have up to 40,000 screaming fans in attendance.
