Matches To Make After UFC Fight Island 6

UFC Fight Island 6 went down last night (Sat., Oct. 17, 2020) inside Flash Forum on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In the main event of the evening, Brian Ortega defeated Chan Sung Jung via unanimous decision (highlights), while Jessica Andrade finished Katlyn Chookagian in one round via a devastating body shot (see it).

Winner: Brian Ortega

Who He Should Face Next: Alexander Volkanovski

It was already pre-determined that the winner of the UFC Fight island 6 main event would get a shot at the Featherweight title, which was once again confirmed after Ortega put on a display against “Korean Zombie.” Ortega showed a new and improved game against Jung, as his striking attack was drastically improved. His submission game is already top notch, so Alexander Volkanovski has to be on his “A” game in all areas when the night comes to face “T-City.” Whether or not Ortega has done enough fine tuning to his attack to dethrone “The Great” is another story.

Winner: Jessica Andrade

Who She Should Face Next: Gillian Robertson

After making her successful move the the 125-pound division, there is no doubt that Andrade has her eyes on a title shot. After all, she was the former Strawweight champion, so she can use that fact to her advantage. Still, she needs a couple more wins to get there as she is still unranked at the moment. I like a fight against Gillian Robertson next. Robertson was also in action last night, defeating Poliana Botelho. She is currently on a two-fight win streak and has won four of five overall. A win for Robertson would be huge for her own title aspirations, while “Bate Estaca” can get another win against a top contender to help her case.

Winner: Jimmy Crute

Who He Should Face Next: Ovince Saint Preux

Jimmy Crute just keeps on winning, as his devastating knockout win over Modestas Bukauskas was his second in a row, and 12 of 13 overall. Saint Preux, meanwhile, got back on the winning track after dropping back down to Light Heavyweight to defeat Alonzo Menifield following an unsuccessful one-fight experiment against Ben Rothwell at Heavyweight. “OSP” has been around the block, so the man is as seasoned as they come and would be a huge challenge for Crute, who could make a drastic leap in the division with a win over a former title contender.

Winner: James Krause

Who He Should Face Next: Anthony Pettis

It’s high time we start putting some more respect on James Krause’ name. The man has won seven in a row in both the Lightweight and Welterweight division. I like Krause at 170 pounds, perhaps the most stacked division under the UFC banner. Call me crazy, but I would love to see a fight between Krause and Pettis. Showtime hasn’t had the best stretch as of late, going just 2-3 in his last five. He did get back in the win column in his last outing by taking out Donald Cerrone for the second time, but a fight against a streaking contender such as Krause will let us know where he’s currently at in his career. And the same goes for Krause because while he has been winning, the names he’s defeated do not exactly jump out at you. A win over Pettis would definitely get him the shine he truly deserves.

Winner: Jonathan Martinez

Who He Should face Next: Rob Font

Martinez picked up one of the biggest wins of his career by dominating Thomas Almeida, a fight he took on short notice. I like a fight against Font for Martinez next. Both men are riding two-fight win streaks, and both are looking to make a jump into the Top 15. Font was last seen taking out Ricky Simon last December. The matchup only works if Martinez decides to stay at Featherweight. If he goes back down to Bantamweight, then I’d love to see him face off against Alejandro Perez, the man he filled in for at UFC Fight Island 6.
