If Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 main event was indeed the final fight of Anderson Silva’s storied career, then he went out on a loss.
Silva (34-11 MMA, 17-7 UFC), a former longtime UFC middleweight champion, fought Uriah Hall (16-9 MMA, 9-7 UFC) to a fourth-round TKO defeat in their headlining bout, which took place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas and streamed on ESPN+.
Coming in, the UFC promoted the fight as Silva’s last dance. “The Spider,” however, gave mixed answers coming in. He was even more unclear post-fight. UFC president Dana White wasn’t pleased about the lack of finality and said Silva will never step inside the octagon again.
We’ve seen time and time again that MMA retirements are flimsy at best. But given Silva’s age and results in recent years, is it in his best interest to move on?
