Jared Vanderaa explains why he called out Sergey Spivak after DWCS 34 win

LAS VEGAS — Jared Vanderaa hurled a bunch of names after securing a UFC contract, but there’s one in particular that he wants.

After weathering an early storm on the feet, Vanderaa (11-4) was able to get the fight to the ground and stop Harry Hunsucker in Round 1 of their heavyweight bout at Dana White’s Contender Series 34 at the UFC Apex.

He wasted no time by getting on the mic and calling out Sergey Spivak, who has been on his radar for a while.

“He ran from me in the regional circuit,” Vanderaa told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at the post-fight press conference. “Listen, I don’t know if it was him or his coaches, but I was offered a fight with him, I accepted on a six-week notice. I was like, ‘I’m down,’ then a week later I got a call, ‘They don’t want to fight you.’ So yeah, I would like to fight him.”

If Vanderaa doesn’t get Spivak, the newly-signed heavyweight already has another name in mind, as well as one that he has no interest in fighting.

“I don’t give a (expletive) who I fight,” Vanderaa said. “If they throw me him, I would like Tom Aspinall, Darren Till’s partner, just because I wanna hear him (expletive) talk, or at least Darren Till to (expletive) talk for him. That’s just gonna be hilarious for me, but I’ll take anyone. I’m going to try and avoid Greg Hardy because I feel like that’s gonna be an easy fight for me, so I’m just gonna try and move through the brackets and make a name for myself with real fighters.”
