Lupita Godinez wants a shot at the big leagues.
The Mexican fighter hopes to get the UFC call now that she’s got gold around her waist. Godinez (5-0 MMA) won the LFA strawweight title last week at LFA 94, outpointing Vanessa Demopoulos (5-3 MMA) in a majority decision to win the title.
The 27-year-old unbeaten prospect feels the UFC will soon come knocking following her most recent win.
“I feel happy, all the work that my team and I are doing is showing,” Godinez said in Spanish on Hablemos MMA. “I’m very happy about the win and now I’m eagerly waiting for the call. I feel like that call should be on its way and that’s what I’m hoping for and what I have in mind.”
Godinez, who lives and trains out of Vancouver, Canada, feels she’s game to compete among the best strawweights in the world. Not only does she feel UFC ready, but she feels confident enough to take on ranked opposition.
“In amateur I had like 10 fights and now I have five professional and they’ve all been good fights, so I feel prepared to be in the UFC for sure,” Godinez explained. “I feel ready for whoever they give me in the UFC.
“If it was up to me, I’d be more than happy to fight with someone in the top 10. I feel ready and I’ve proved it. There’s many things I need to improve on and work on and add, but I feel I’m at a high level.”
Godinez has been training MMA for a little over five years. Despite being young in her fighting career, the Mexican strawweight has big goals in mind.
“I’m not in this career to have fun because this is a dangerous job and you have to be all in,” Godinez said. “You really have to be passionate. I obviously want to make it to the UFC and stay in the UFC without getting cut and obviously one day fight the belt.”
