The $10 Million Man

I don’t know who did the negotiating for Roy Jones Jr. but they should be yelled at.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson will earn $10 million for his “sweet science” return this weekend in Los Angeles, according to Kevin Iole, and while he may be the “A” side when it comes to pay-per-view (PPV) sales, “Iron” probably can’t do any better in terms of opponents than Jones, who is expected to bank just $3 million.

Tyson and Jones are scheduled for eight, two-minute rounds in a bout that has been ridiculed for the various restrictions put in place by California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), forcing promoters to institute celebrity scoring.

“Anyone who is saying this isn’t a real fight, or there won’t be a knockout or winner is now realizing uh oh, this is real,” said Triller co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh. “I think people were just in disbelief they were actually going to witness a real Tyson fight. But it is as real as real gets. There will be a winner. Knockouts are allowed. There will be scoring. Betting has been approved. There isn’t a person who has watched the Tyson training videos on Triller that hasn’t said ‘This guy could actually be heavyweight champion again.’”

The PPV card, which boasts a co-main event between YouTube personality Jake Paul and former NBA star Nate Robinson, will cost $49.99 and feature commentary from UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya and Hall of Fame pugilist “Sugar” Ray Leonard.
