The intrigue over whether Khabib Nurmagomedov will return to the UFC is fast becoming the biggest “will they, won’t they” storyline since Ross and Rachel in “Friends,” and that story took a new twist with a short, but perhaps telling, quote from the UFC lightweight champion.
Speaking to Russian outlet Sports.ru, Nurmagomedov was asked about his upcoming meeting with UFC president Dana White, and what the pair planned to discuss.
Nurmagomedov initially played it cool, and simply said, “I just want to see Dana. We always have fun.”
But then he continued and gave hope to his legion of fans worldwide that a potential return to the octagon may still be on the cards.
Cryptically, he said, “I have something interesting for White, and he has something for me. We’ll see. We will have a big discussion.”
While many will be hoping for the meeting to produce a comeback announcement, there could be another motive for Khabib’s appointment with White.
Reports emanating from Russia are suggesting that Nurmagomedov has purchased Dagestani MMA promotion Gorilla Fighting Championship (GFC) for a rumored $1 million. If true, it’s likely Nurmagomedov will want to pick White’s brains about his new acquisition, and potentially discuss the possibility of striking a deal to get future events shown on UFC Fight Pass.
Nurmagomedov is reportedly set to appear at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Dec. 2, which may shed further light on his plans for the future.
