Omari Akhmedov vs. Tom Breese added to UFC Fight Night on Jan. 16

A middleweight matchup is the latest addition to the UFC’s first card of 2021.

Omari Akhmedov will face Tom Breese on Jan. 16 at UFC Fight Night, officials announced Monday. The event does not yet have a designated location or venue.

In his past outing, Akhmedov (20-5-1 MMA, 8-4-1 UFC) suffered his first loss in almost four years when he was defeated by former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman this past August. Prior to the loss, Akhmedov had gone 5-0-1 in his previous six outings, with his lone blemish being a draw with Marvin Vettori in December 2017. Akhmedov was then booked to rematch Vettori at UFC 256 on Dec. 12 but was pulled for undisclosed reasons.

Breese (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has split his past four appearances and is coming off a “Performance of the Night” knockout of newcomer K.B. Bhullar at UFC on ESPN+ 37 in October.

With the addition, the Jan. 16 lineup includes:

  • Max Holloway vs. Calvin Kattar
