Tecia Torres gets short-notice replacement Sam Hughes at UFC 256

Tecia Torres has a dance partner for Saturday night.

The UFC strawweight veteran will take on newcomer Sam Hughes in a preliminary card bout at UFC 256 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The promotion announced the news Tuesday.

Torres (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) was scheduled to meet Angela Hill in a rematch, but the bout was scrapped on Monday after Hill tested positive for COVID-19. The “Tiny Tornado” looks to follow up on a dominant decision win over former Invicta FC champ Brianna Van Buren back in June. The victory snapped a four fight losing streak for Torres.

Torres’ new opponent, Hughes (5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), gets a shot at the big leagues after starting her professional MMA career in 2019. Hughes is a former LFA title challenger. She’s coming off a submission win over Danielle Hindley at LFA 93 back in October.
