Nunes Vs Anderson Rebooked For UFC 259

UFC

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s two-division champion Amanda Nunes will defend her featherweight title opposite top contender Megan Anderson at the upcoming UFC 259 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., March 6, 2021 at a city and venue to be named.

That’s according to ESPN.

Nunes (20-4) has won 11 straight fights across two separate divisions, scoring seven violent finishes along the way. She’s widely considered the greatest female UFC fighter of all time after stopping former champions Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate, as well as Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm.

“Lioness” was previously scheduled to return at UFC 256 but a “serious medical issue” gave her pause.

As for Anderson (11-4), she’s had a hot-and-cold run since crossing over from Invicta FC back in summer 2018. After an upset loss to Felicia Spencer at UFC Fight Night 152, the Aussie rebounded with consecutive wins over Zarah Fairn dos Santos (UFC 243) and Norma Dumont Viana (UFC Fight Night 169).

Expect Nunes to be a heavy betting favorite come fight night.

The Nunes-Anderson title fight is likely to be named event headliner on a stacked card that already features Aleksandar Rakic vs. Thiago Santos, Dominick Cruz vs. Casey Kenney, and Joseph Benavidez vs. Askar Askarov, just to name a few.

Assuming COVID-19 doesn’t have something to say about it.
