Everlast signs Bellator women’s featherweight Leah McCourt as brand ambassador

Iconic sporting brand Everlast has signed Leah McCourt, making her “the first female athlete to be placed on an apparel deal from the U.K.,” according to the company.

The 110-year-old sporting equipment brand recently announced the signing.

“Leah has a unique story and is making big waves in MMA,” Everlast chief marketing officer Chris Zoller stated. “She’s a groundbreaking competitor and an inspiration to young female athletes everywhere. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team.”

A native of Northern Ireland, the 28-year-old McCourt (4-1 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) is a judo black belt and the 2016 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation amateur world champion.

After suffering a loss in her professional debut, she has since rattled off four consecutive victories, including three under the Bellator banner.

“It is a dream come true to sign with the most iconic brand in combat, and I am proud to be continuing to make history,” McCourt stated. “We have some exiting ideas in the pipeline, and I cannot wait to bring them to life and to continue changing the game.”

Current Everlast brand representatives include former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier and former WBC heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder.

McCourt was expected to face New Zealand’s Janay Harding in May before the contest was scrapped due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Her next appearance has not yet been announced.
