Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal would appear to be the Welterweight fight to make. Current kingpin Kamaru Usman has business with Gilbert Burns, but otherwise, Covington is the top-ranked contender, and there’s a long history between “Chaos” and his former best pal.

A likely title eliminator that sells like hot cakes? It should be an easy pairing, but Covington pins the holdup on Masvidal. “Yeah, I’ve wanted the fight since day one. Everybody knows that. Dana White knows that,” Colby Covington told Submission Radio (transcription via CurrentMMA).

“He had a lot to say before, guys. He was saying in the gym that he’d fight me on sight. He wanted to go out into the public parking lot. He was telling Dana White at a show in LA, when DC was fighting Stipe, that he was ready to fight back stage and wanted to fight me there and then. Where’s he at now guys? Now he’s nowhere to be found. Now he’s going to get paid seven figures, he’s going to get paid all this money to go fight in the octagon and now he’s going to have someone to pay his hospital bills [the UFC] after I’m done with him. So, where is this guy?”

“They said it was going to be a tough task, because he doesn’t want to fight me,” Covington said. “They pretty much told me that he plain and simple told them he doesn’t like the style match up. You’re in the UFC fighting the best fighters in the world. You claim to want to want to be the best in the world and you don’t like the style match up. What is this? The real divas of Atlanta? What are we doing? I thought we were in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, not the Ultimate Feelings Championship.”

Covington was last seen beating the brakes off Tyron Woodley back in September for a fifth-round stoppage victory, whereas Masvidal helped sell one of the biggest events of the year by stepping up on ultra short-notice to face Usman at UFC 251.

The road to a rematch with “The Nigerian Nightmare” seemingly lies through one another.

Midnight Music: Paul McCartney completed the McCartney trilogy last Friday, and because I’m a big Beatles dork, of course I listened to the 78 year old’s new release. It doesn’t sound like The Beatles (nor should it, it’s been 50 years), but McCartney still can write pleasant, poppy songs!
