Mac Out To Prove He’s A Better Boxer Than Holloway

Max Holloway put on a memorable performance last Saturday (Jan. 16, 2021) at UFC Fight Island 7 against Calvin Kattar, cruising his way to a clear-cut unanimous decision win thanks to his record-breaking striking output. During the fight, “Blessed” took the time to remind Kattar — as well as the cageside commentating crew — that he feels he’s is the best boxer under the UFC umbrella, which he followed up with a straight jab to his opponent’s face.

The performance caught everyone’s attention, including Conor McGregor, who disagrees with Holloway’s claims that he has the best hands in the promotion. That’s why he plans to up his game when he takes on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on Jan. 23 to prove he has the best boxing around.

“He’s not the best [boxer],” McGregor told the MacLife via MMA Fighting. “It’s no question and I’ll prove that on Sunday morning. Let’s see what he has to say after Sunday morning.

“Watch, I’ll end up bleeding kicking Dustin [Poirier] in the head like the last one, I had the boxing crew with me and I end up bleeding kicking Donald [Cerrone] in the head and breaking his face with my shoulders. I have so many shots and it will just come out magically on the night,” he added.

According to this claim, he will only have 60 seconds to do it.

McGregor’s striking abilities are undoubtedly solid because he’s earned several knockouts throughout his MMA career and even took part in the biggest boxing match imaginable against Floyd Mayweather.

As far as what he though of Max’s fight, he was impressed enough to say that he could find himself facing the Hawaiian scrapper once again down the road.

“I thought it was a solid performance,” McGregor said. “He fought an up and comer. He done well. I was actually doing an interview and he skateboarded by the window ‘is that Max Holloway?’ So he’s obviously hanging around. Fair play to him, more power to him.

“He’s definitely in the pipeline for a bout against me. For sure, I would happily rematch Max. After a performance like that, he’s put himself right up there.”

McGregor defeated Holloway in 2013 via unanimous decision but the two men could never seem to find a way to run it back. “Notorious” plans on being very active in 2021 so perhaps a do-over against “Blessed” will make his way onto his docket.

Should it come to pass, what do you foresee the outcome being?
